Dr. Tariq Abdelhamid is an Associate Professor of Construction Management at Michigan State University (MSU). He joined MSU in November 2000. He teaches classes in Lean Construction, Project Scheduling, and Construction Operations Simulation, and Construction Ergonomics. Dr. Abdelhamid conducts research in Lean Construction and Construction Occupational Safety and Health and their application to residential and commercial construction. Dr. Abdelhamid publishes on topics related to Construction Safety and Ergonomics and Lean Construction. He is serving as the Chair of the Lean Construction Institute Academic Forum, and is the US Editor of the Lean Construction Journal, an international journal published by the Lean Construction Institute. Abdelhamid also provides professional services to the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management and the Journal of Construction Management and Economics, The American Professional Constructor Journal, and the International Group for Lean Construction annual conference as a reviewer. Dr. Abdelhamid earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering-Construction Engineering and Management from the University of Michigan. He holds two master’s degrees in Industrial and Operations Engineering and Construction Engineering and Management from U of M. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Alexandria University, in Alexandria, Egypt. Prior to accepting the professorship at MSU, Abdelhamid worked as a Lean Production subject matter expert and project management specialist for Ford Motor Company (Ford). He also worked as a Scheduler/Planner for PAC Project Advisors (Troy, Michigan), and an Engineer III for the University of Michigan Construction Engineering and Management Office.
