Research Interests: transportation planning, evaluation in planning, and methods of regional analysis
Dr. Hinojosa is professor in Urban and Regional Planning, School of Planning Design and Construction, and an adjunct professor in the Department of Geography. He is former Acting Director of the Julian Samora Research Institute (JSRI) of Michigan State University, former Chair of the Department of Geography, visiting professor at the Science University in Tokyo, Japan, and a Fulbright Scholar at the National University, Colombia. Previously he worked as a civil engineer and as a consultant in the private sector. He had contract projects in Latin America as a consultant to international development agencies in the areas of regional development, employment and income generation, small business development, and database management systems. He has authored articles and technical reports dealing with methods and techniques for regional analysis. He teaches quantitative research techniques, transportation planning, regional economic analysis, and urbanization in developing countries. He has organized several study abroad courses including programs in Japan, Mexico, Italy, Cuba, Dominican Republic, served in a university council to review research and graduate education at Michigan State University, and he has served in numerous college and departmental committees. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle.
