Jon Vredevoogd is an associate professor for the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University (MSU). He has an MFA from Pratt Institute, New York; and a BS from Michigan State University. Jon has worked for NASA developing the application of space technology to housing. Before joining MSU, Jon worked with American Airlines in the corporate projects group and as a designer for Interior Space Design, both in New York City. Jon has contributed to MSU since 1970, and most recently received the SBC Faculty-Staff Instructional Technology Award 2005.

While at MSU, Jon studied hands-on medicine with John Upledger, Doctor of Osteopathic medicine. Together they co-authored the publication Craniosacral Therapy. He has authored Design for Living. He has co-authored Using AutoCAD in Your Job Part I and Using AutoCAD in your Job Part II with Diane Bender. He has co-authored Effectively Presenting Your Design Projects and Integrating CAD into the Design Process with Kristy Kellom. For a complete list of Jon’s publications, see his Curriculum Vitae.

Jon was invited by Pratt Institute to present his work in the 1991 exhibit: The Insider’s Exhibit: Thirty Years of Design. Vitra Design Museum’s exhibit: Living in Motion – Design and Architecture for Flexible Dwelling traveled with Jon’s work Telescoping and Laterally-Movable Mobile Home System throughout Europe from 2003-2005. Jon’s work was included with Mies van der Rohe, Charles Eames and Buckminster Fuller.

Jon has seven patents, most prominently the Ergorama Chair which was featured in the Botero Collection and the Kipp Bay Show House, both in New York. Other patents include tension structures, powered furniture, and arch supported membranes.

Jon has done consulting and presentations for numerous corporations, some include: Johnson Controls, Lear Corp, General Motors and The Museum of Modern Art Architecture Department.
Current research interests include developing leading-edge distance learning for students and professionals.
