Applications submitted for graduate study in the Construction Management Program in The School of Planning, Design and Construction are often incomplete. This adds to the time required to review the application and therefore prolongs the applicant from receiving the review committee's decision on their admission.
Michigan State University uses a web based application process. Please click here http://grad.msu.edu/apply.htm to complete the Graduate Application.
Be particularly careful to submit the following information online with your application.
Personal Statement/Statement of Purpose: Your Personal Statement/Statement of Purpose should be in essay format and clearly answer the following three questions:
- What are your areas of research interests?
- What is your career objective?
- Why would a graduate degree in Construction Management be helpful in obtaining your goals?
Your Personal Statement/Statement of Purpose should clearly indicate in which sub-area of Construction Management you wish to study. The acceptable sub-areas are:
- Estimating, Scheduling, and Project Controls
- Construction Management Information Systems
- Computer Applications in Construction Management
- Design-Build
- Construction Ergonomics & Lean Systems
- Construction Contracts and Legal Aspects
- Affordable Housing
- Land Development and Housing
- Construction Education
- International Project Management
Financial Assistance: Applicants should
indicate on the application if they wish to be considered for a
graduate assistantship or financial aid. The Construction Management
Program has limited resources and does not provide financial support
for all of its graduate students. The program very seldom supports
new international students. Students requesting admission without
a graduate assistantship should clearly state in their Personal
Statement/Statement of Purpose how they expect to financially support
themselves during their study at MSU.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
The program requires all of its applicants to take the Graduate
Record Examination. Only the general test is required, you do not
need to take any subject tests. You should have your GRE Exam scores
sent to Michigan State University using 1465 as the institution code and 00 as non-specific for the department code.
The GRE Exam is one tool that is used to evaluate your potential to succeed in graduate school. The exam measures the verbal, quantitative, and analytical skills that you have acquired over a long period of time. For more information you may visit the GRE website at http://www.ets.org/.
For applicants in the Lansing area the GRE Exam is administered through the MSU Testing Office. An appointment is required. Details are available at http://www.testingoffice.msu.edu/.
Recommendation for Admission: Three
(3) Recommendation for Admission Reports are required to complete
your application for graduate study. References may also attach
a letter of support is they wish. Suggested references are former
professors and/or previous or current employers, individuals that
are familiar with your work ethic or educational background. The
Recommendation for Admission Reports should be given to your references
to complete. The Recommendation for Admission Reports and/or letters
of support should be current and on original letterhead paper. The
program does not accept copies of previous letters or rating sheets
given to the applicant for general use.
Recommendations should be mailed to the following address:
