Research Centers

Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE)

CUIRE

The Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE) at Michigan State University promotes and supports the industry in research, outreach, publication and education activities. It is CUIRE's mission to support asset management strategies and technologies which enhance cost-effectiveness, construction productivity, safety, environmental improvement and renewal of the aging underground infrastructure.

CUIRE is committed to excellence in research and dedicated to providing programs which increase awareness of infrastructure technologies and methodologies. CUIRE works closely with the industry and welcomes membership from all sectors to assure research and education topics within the Center are relevant and essential to the future of the underground infrastructure.

Housing Education and Research Center (HERC)

The research center HERC is a partnership between the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB) and the Construction Management (CM) program at Michigan State University.

HERC will primarily function as an adjunct research, education and training arm of the MAHB. This center will work with individual builders, associate members, utility companies, and various non-profit organizations. By pooling these resources, the HERC will provide a variety of outreach, research, training, and problem solving services to various sectors of the housing industry in Michigan.

In January of 1996, HERC was approved for membership in the National Consortium of Housing Research Centers. The consortium members regularly exchange ideas and research results throughout the year. Annual reports are formally presented by all members of the consortium at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) national convention.

The CM program at Michigan State University is in a unique position to develop HERC because of its strong ties with the residential construction industry in Michigan. Both the MAHB and the CM faculty at Michigan State University are enthusiastic about HERC's potential to gain recognition as a leading source of education and applied research for emerging issues crucial to the housing industry.
