Undergraduate Program - Internships

The Construction Management Program encourages students to gain work experience within the construction industry. These work experiences will not only broaden the student's resume but give the student the opportunity to apply the skills he or she has learned in the classroom. Although an internship is not required for completion of the B.S. Degree in Construction Management, some students may wish to gain MSU elective credit for their work experience, in the form of an internship. Students that have been admitted to upper division in the Construction Management Program may apply to be approved for internship credit. Once approved by the CM Program, the student may enroll for CMP 493, Professional Internship in Construction Management, for 3 credits. Enrollment in CMP 493 is limited.

Students enrolled in the internship program will be required to work full-time, submit weekly log reports, submit a summary of their work experience, have an on-site review with their supervisor, etc. Each student will be assigned to a faculty member that will oversee their internship experience.

When the Internship Agreement Form is complete it should be submitted to the CMP Undergraduate Academic Advisor in Room 203D Human Ecology.

Students may see the Undergraduate Academic Advisor if they have questions regarding the internship.

Professional Internship
As Waiver for the CMP Capstone Course (CMP 435/436)

AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER SEMESTER 2007 ONLY

Students that have completed all of the CMP courses through the 300 level may qualify to do a professional internship in place of the capstone requirement (CMP 435 or CMP 436) to fulfill their degree requirements. The CM Program will determine if the student's employment/work experience will qualify for a waiver of the capstone course.

Students being considered for the capstone waiver must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25, which will be calculated based on all of the 100, 200, and 300 level CMP courses.

Students wishing to substitute this internship for the capstone course program requirement are required to gain experiences similar to those included in the capstone course. Based on the nature of the student's company, students must fill out either the residential, commercial, or subcontractor/supplier capstone course checklist prior to the onsite visit by the internship coordinator.

The following Capstone Checklists are intended to be used as guidelines for the intern and the employer to achieve a work experience that is equivalent to the capstone course requirement.
