The Interior
Design curriculum:
• Offers a CIDA (formerly F.I.D.E.R) accredited curriculum beginning
with an overview of interior design focusing on human needs in the built
environment.
• Offers overseas study programs in architecture and interior
design.
• Offers an internship experience to provide pre-professional
exposure in selected interior design businesses or community projects.
• Emphasizes experimentation with design
elements
and principles.
• Integrates aesthetics with the functional consideration in the
design of interior space.
• Applies computer-aided design to interior spaces.
• Employs design communication through dimensional drawings in
varied media, including 3-D models. Provides instruction in presentation
procedures and techniques.
• Teaches the writing of specifications, workroom practices, and
the selection of materials used for fabrication and installation of
design solutions for interior spaces.
• Incorporates lighting, ventilation, acoustics, heating, and
cooling with interior space.
• Teaches the historical development of furniture, textiles, and
other decorative arts in interior design and architecture.
• Applies universal design and barrier free design possibilities
to interior spaces.
• Incorporates building codes and safety regulations for interior
specifications.
• Links theories and work experiences as related to professional
practice standards, design professionals, and their clients.
• Includes preservation practices with an emphasis on interior
historic restoration and adaptive use.
• Discusses the impact of psychological and cultural dimensions
of housing and interiors from a human ecological perspective.
• Provides preparation for those interested in pursuing graduate
study in interior design and facilities management or related fields.
