Las Vegas Deputy City Manager Scott Adams to speak at Oct. 6 SPDC Industry Seminar Series

The MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) is hosting the 9th Industry Seminar Series event Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing.

The MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) is hosting the 9th Industry Seminar Series event Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing.

The featured speaker is Scott Adams, deputy city manager for the City of Las Vegas. He is a 1977 MSU urban planning alumnus, and will present on “MSU, Urban Planning and Cities: A Career Perspective.” In his role for the City of Las Vegas, Adams oversees the departments of Economic and Urban Development, Community Services, Cultural Affairs, and Parks and Recreation. He also serves as the operations officer for the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency. Adams is a certified manager with the International City Managers Association; a member of the International Economic Development Council and the Urban Land Institute; and a past member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

During his career, Adams has been instrumental in significant change in each community he has worked in through extensive involvement in master planning, public-private partnerships, and business attraction and development. He has worked with some of the largest businesses and developers in America. Communities Adams has worked with include Jefferson Parish and the New Orleans Regional Medical Center in New Orleans, LA; Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville, FL; the Greater Norfolk area, VA; Memphis, TN; and his hometown of Jackson, MI.

The SPDC Industry Seminar Series consists of lectures by invited speakers who are industry leaders in the Built Environment profession. Past presenters include:

The facilitator for the October event is Professor Mark Wilson, program leader for the MSU Urban & Regional Planning Program. Joseph Maguire, mentioned above, serves as the facilitator of the Series.
