The School features several outreach programs, research centers, & institutes dedicated to advancing knowledge in communities to transform lives on a local and global scale.
Construction Management
Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE)
Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE) is established with the goal of promoting research, development and training in underground infrastructure construction and renewal technologies. Michigan State University has more than 44,000 students and 30,000 sq. ft. of engineering laboratory space. Faculty from various programs in different colleges can join together on interdisciplinary research projects.
Housing Education and Research Center (HERC)
HERC will primarily function as an adjunct research, education and training arm of the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB). This center will work with individual builders, associate members, utility companies, and various non-profit organizations. By pooling these resources, the HERC will provide a variety of outreach, research, training, and problem solving services to various sectors of the housing industry in Michigan.

The Nonprofit Michigan Project investigates the scale, structure, and contribution of Michigan's nonprofit sector.
Practicum
This is the Program's capstone course that creates the opportunity for students to work with communities to help them reach their goals and for the students to gain valuable and realistic, hands-on experience. While many of our other classes have opportunities for students to work with communities on a variety of projects, practicum is the only class that is solely dedicated to that purpose.
Smart Michigan
A project to foster economic and social development through policies and plans that harness the many opportunities of the knowledge-based information age.
Urban Collaborators (UC)
An inter-disciplinary effort working to resolve urban issues facing Michigan's cities.
Urban Planning Partnerships (UPP)
Seeking to facilitate timely research and outreach on urban policy and planning issues in Michigan communities.
