How We Work

banner image

working with communitiesIf your community would like UPP assistance, contact your county's MSU Extension Office (for Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Lansing, Pontiac or Saginaw) and ask for your MSU Extension Educator, Community and Economic Development. If you live outside our target cities, then contact the main office at MSU.

  • We require an established community partner to provide feedback and guidance for the duration of the project and modest matching funds to meet expenses.
  • If we have the capacity to meet your request, and it falls within our mission, we will attempt to match you with a group of undergraduate and/or graduate students who will carry out the project under the direction of University professors.
  • We will work with you to help you stay involved in the project, and to make sure that it continues to meet your needs to the greatest extent possible within the allotted time frame (usually one semester).
  • We will make a final presentation to you and to your community partners and present you with a final report, which you may use to help you carry out your project.
